now, is it MicroSoft or Micro$oft?
i was reading a certain mac-oriented webcomic the other day, and the artist had a rather interesting rant about microsoft's up and coming operating system, code named "longhorn." and honestly, not suprisingly, it seems like microsoft is in it for the money.
now, dont get me wrong, i use windows. unwillingly, but i use it. one of the big things that microsoft is promoting about Longhorn is that all the browser windows and whatnot have the ability to become semi-transparent. is there really a point to this? i mean, did some developer at microsoft think to himself, 'hey, i bet it'd be nice to be able to play solitaire and still be able to read the webpage behind my game.' its really sad that this is one of the big things theyre pushing about longhorn. whatever happened to innovation? computer programs and whatnot have had the ability to become opaque with the right plugins. even then, its not very widely used.
microsoft has also said that theyre going to include internet explorer version 7 with longhorn. oh, and it'll be 'more secure' and have the ability to use tabbed browsing, just like firefox. again, i have to say 'so what?' im still gonna use mozilla firefox. hackers are still going to find ways to get around any 'security features' that may or may not be found in IE7. theyve been doing it for ages. its why i use firefox.
and while im on the issue of security, M$ has also said that longhorn will be more secure than its predecessors. when i heard that, i had to laugh. when has a microsoft operating system EVER been totally secure? seriously. a fresh windows xp pro installation, once connected to the internet, will be hacked or otherwise infected within twelve minutes without the proper patches and upgrades. twelve minutes, bill. thats *some* security. what are you gonna do to secure longhorn? put a zipper on the box? geez. i'll stick with my windows 2000 pro, thank you very much. at least it's less of a memory hog.
